Plex and install it on Ubuntu.

Plex: a wonderful media server

Lets you share your media files (movies, music, photographs) within a local area network, as a client you can use a mobile, tablet, smarttv on a computer.

Besides client android or IOS allows remote control to work as any other player in which to run. The client android or IOS are extra. But frankly worth it for the features it offers.

Install PLEX server

To install plex I use ubuntu 12.04 but it would be the same in other versions.

Download the latest version of plex from page

To download click on plex version of our system.

 

install plex

Once downloaded plex we double click on the icon.

We will open the Ubuntu Software Center (ten takes a little patience). Click on install.

When finished and the server will be installed to access the just have to go and search applications plex media manager.

You can also access the following URL to configure your server http://localhost:32400/web/index.html

Remember that you need an account https://plex.tv/ to access additional settings, You can record any e-mail.

The home intalacion Plex Theatre will make using the command line for what you run the following commands in terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plexapp/plexht
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-severinsson/ffmpeg
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pulse-eight/libcec
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plexhometheater

Already installed plex client on the route

/opt/plexhometheater/bin/plexhometheater

Now you can open the plex media manager and configure which folders are your media. Once done you can connect your customers want.

    I get the following error when I try run Plexhometheater:

    “Unable to find path to XBMC data files!”

    This is when I type: /opt/plexhometheater/bin/plexhometheater

    I installed it as per your instructions without error. My setup is as follows:
    Ubunto 13.10
    memory: 1GB
    processor: Intel Core i3-3220 CPU @ 3.3GHz
    OS: 32-bit

    any ideas?

  2. Hi Jason,
    I have installed plex home theater in my ubuntu 12.04LTS.but i have some problems.these are the problems.
    1—>how to turned off graphical boot to avoid “ububtu logo” showing on display during boot process.
    2—>How to configure auto-login to the non-privileged user and then, in the next boot, after X11 loads, the OS make auto-login and the PlexHT app runs automatically, very quickly.. you barely notice that the Ubuntu OS is booting, becase before PlexHT is shown, only terminal screen is appearing.
    Please help me out…
